Exam checklist

  • Step one of the National Police Promotion Framework (NPPF) is eligibility: your force confirms you can sit the exam before you register.
  • 2027 sittings: 16–18 March 2027 (registration 18 January to 18 February, 6pm) and 5–7 October 2027 (registration 3 August to 9 September). Check the dates on college.police.uk before you plan.
  • The exam is 150 multiple-choice questions in 3 hours, taken online. 140 questions are scored. The pass mark is 55% (77 of 140) and 75% or more is an exceptional pass.
  • The syllabus is the Blackstone's Police Manuals 2027: Crime, Evidence and Procedure, and General Police Duties (including road policing). Revise from the 2027 editions, because older editions miss law changes.
  • Read the College of Policing candidate handbook for the online exam rules (ID, your room and desk, equipment and breaks) and do any system check it asks for well before the day.
  • Check the handbook for when results are released, resit rules and how long a pass stays valid for step three.
  • Our mocks are original practice questions in the exam format. Check every legal point against your 2027 manual: this site is an independent revision aid, not affiliated with the College of Policing.
